New nature center being discussed

COLORADO SPRINGS – Rapid growth and so much interest in the great outdoors across the Pikes Peak region has generated serious discussions about creating a third nature center in El Paso county.

A public meeting was held on Thursday night to discuss possible ideas about where to establish the center moving forward, since the two that currently exist are experiencing limited capacity and a whole lot of interest.

We spoke with Todd Marts with the county who told us that nothing has been decided yet, including location, how it’s going to be paid for, short and long term, and who the county might partner with to make it happen.

He says there has also been some pushback from folks who live in the Black Forest area who understandably love their parks and are very protective, and are not certain that establishing a third nature center is good for the region. Whatever is decided, Marts say they want to make it special.

We’ll keep you posted as the plan moves forward.
