CAÑON CITY – If you’re in the mood for small town charm combined with holiday festivities come visit Cañon City on Saturday, December 1st for their 30th annual Christmas Parade of Lights.
This year’s theme is the ‘Ugly Christmas Sweater Parade’ so be sure to bring as many ugly holiday sweaters as you can find for family and friends.
The parade in downtown starts at 6 pm and is expected to wrap up by 8 p.m. The route is all along Main St. from 5th St. to 10 p.m.
Organizers say there are 50 float and display entries for this year’s event. All entries must be illuminated in a holiday fashion.
Judges will consider the best displays based on (1) Use of Lights, (2) Incorporating the theme “Ugly Christmas
Sweater”, (3) Originality, (4) Creativity, and (5) Quality of Workmanship.
But the parade is not the only attraction! There will be plenty of family fun with vendors selling goodies, snacks and hot beverages. You’ll also have a chance to check out unique wares from shops along Cañon City’s Main St.
The Cañon City Chamber event has never been cancelled or postponed in the 30 year-long run. As the entry rules state, “this is a winter event.”
So far, the First Alert 5 Weather Team expects Cañon City to be a little windy for that day with a high of 49° and a low of 21°.
