You know, a little turkey grease really comes in handy in putting together a tasty Thanksgiving gravy, but leave it at that, don’t dump that excess Fat, Oil and Grease, “FOG”, down the drain.

A friendly reminder from Colorado Springs Utilities, as we work our way forward to the big turkey day meal to never put any of those fats, grease or oil down your garbage disposal. Also, keep any potato or apple peels, or other stringy vegetables, like celery, out of the sink as well.

It can clog up your pipes, and potentially, cost you big time when you have to hire a plumber to clean it out. CSU also reminding you that even if you think running hot water after pouring something down the drain is fine, think again. The experts say that it only pushes the grease further down the drain, and it will eventually solidify, and clog a little further down the line. And that clogged drain can cost you anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars to a few thousand to get it cleaned up and cleaned out.

So remember, take those fats, oils and greases and put them in another container, and throw it in the trash. Another tip, wipe down you pots and pans with a paper towel to get the grease off of them, before you wash them, or throw them in the dishwasher.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
