SALIDA – Monarch Mountain announced it will open Friday, the earliest opening day since the mid-90s.
This is the earliest opening date for Monarch since the 1996-97 season. Monarch was tentatively scheduled to open on Nov. 21, 2018, but it will beat that date by five days. Last year, Monarch opened on Nov. 23, 2017.
Monarch relies entirely on natural snow, and its early start to the season is due to a big assist from Mother Nature.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled for an early opening this year,” said Randy Stroud, general manager of Monarch Mountain. “We did our snow dances and Mother Nature delivered.”
Monarch has received 34 inches of snow so far this year. Ski Patrol is still trying to determine which lifts will be running, but roughly 30-40 percent of the Mountain’s terrain is expected to be open Friday.
The Mountain said its new tubing park will not be open Friday, but it said that date will be announced soon. CLICK HERE for information about lift tickets and pricing.
