COLORADO SPRINGS – It will be cold again this Sunday as we’re expected to wake up to snow with temperatures staying below freezing all day.  Please keep your pets in mind.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region wants to remind pet owners some easy things to help their well being.

If your dog has to stay outside, provide a dog house that’s off the ground or heated.

Remember to clean any ice, snow, and salt from their paws.

Don’t forget their water bowls can freeze outside.

Always keep your dogs on a leash when walking in the snow as frozen and snowy ground reduces their sense of smell. So if they ran off they may not be able to find their way back home.

The best solution is to keep them warm and safe with you inside your home.

While most of the tips are about dogs who are the most common outside pet, keep in mind any cats that may be running around your neighborhood.

Cats are known to crawl up into a vehicle’s engine compartment to stay warm. To avoid a catastrophe, just bang in the hood to scare any possible feline away.
