CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – CDOT crews have closed Colorado’s other road to the top of a 14er for the winter.

CDOT said Friday that the road to the summit of Mt. Evans will shut down for the season due to snow in the forecast this weekend. The road was scheduled to close on Monday prior to Friday’s announcement.

Transportation officials said the road will remain open to Echo Lake before the closure begins.

This year, the highway to the top of the 14,265-foot mountain opened just before Memorial Day weekend after CDOT plows cleared the road.

While Mt. Evans is closed, Pikes Peak Highway remains open just west of Colorado Springs.
