CAÑON CITY – A freak electrical fire last March threatened the extinction of the T-Rex at the Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience and months later, the popular attraction is making a comeback.

At the time of the fire, Owner Zach Reynolds said he hoped to replace the dinosaur before the summer. It may have taken a little longer, but the new T-Rex is said to be even more impressive than the last one. Though it’s hard to beat the pictures of the burning T-Rex that flooded social media.

Reynold’s said the fire on March 22nd, caught everyone off guard. He said he watched the flames climb up the backside of the dinosaur and there wasn’t much they could do about it at that point. He said he just kinda ran around the front with a great blue sky background and started shooting photos and videos.

The burned skeletal remains stood at the park for a while as a reminder of the beloved T-Rex. On Saturday, October 6th, the new T-Rex is being unveiled and a celebration is taking place. A ribbon cutting ceremony starts at 1:00 p.m. and the public is welcome to see the new dinosaur and even munch on a T-Rex cupcake.
