Hot air balloons to fill the sky this weekend in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS – The sky above Colorado Springs will be a little more colorful over  Labor Day weekend.

The Labor Day Lift Off celebration is set to start Saturday morning at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs. The free event has live music, chainsaw carvers, doughnut eating competitions, photography competitions and paddleboarding on Prospect Lake for those who are interested.

Memorial Park will open at 6 a.m. Saturday for people to get in place for the balloon ascension at 7 a.m. Other events will happen later that morning.

On Saturday evening, the balloon glow is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with live music and chainsaw carving happening before the glow. The park will open at 3:30 p.m.

Sunday morning will follow the same schedule for the ascension and the opening of the park. The USAFA Wings of Blue Skydive Jumpers will jump at 9:30 a.m.

Sunday night will follow a similar schedule to Saturday, with the park opening at 3:30 p.m. and live music before the balloon glow at 7:30 p.m.

On Monday, there will only be a morning ceremony at 7 a.m. The event will wrap up at 10 a.m.
