PALO ALTO – Problems continue to mount for Facebook. The social media network admitted Thursday it failed to properly mask the passwords of hundreds of millions of users.

“Krebs on Security” first reported the news.

Facebook says the passwords were stored in an internal database that workers were able to access.

The company has not said for how long the passwords were stored in such a manner, but said the issue was discovered during a security review in January.

Facebook says it will notify Facebook and Instagram users if their passwords were affected.
