Instrument drive brings music to life for local students

One local instrument drive wants your help Bringing Music to Life for students across Southern Colorado. They’re in desperate need of donations after last weeks blizzard.

Many of our kids enjoy playing a musical instrument, especially the band at Mann Middle School! However, we all know those instruments can be costly. We caught up with several students that received instruments from this drive and they said it was a game changer.

“Musics been a really big part of my life,” said 8th grade student Nicole Diaz. “I want to be a musician when I grow up, so being a part of this band means so much to me and my future.”

Thanks to a batch of instruments from the instrument drive, Nicole has been playing the cornet for 2 years. She’s part of the advanced jazz band. They practice every morning before the bell rings for class and even take their act on the road for competitions.

“When I play I feel excited, I feel happy, I just feel so many emotions at one time on the inside,” continued Nicole.

“It’s hard to put into words,” said 7th grade saxophone player Elie Bertman. “You get swallowed by the music.”

Because of last weeks blizzard, they tell us they’re behind in donations this year, but you can change that! They’re accepting any gently used band and orchestra instruments through this Saturday.
