WELD COUNTY – Colorado State Patrol is trying to find a woman who helped Corporal Daniel Groves after he was hit by a car on I-76 in the middle of Wednesday’s blizzard.
Cpl. Groves was transported to Platte Valley Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly upon arrival.
Groves was helping a driver with a car that slid off the road when he was hit by another car.

This case is being investigated by CSP. No charges have been filed.
Flags across the state were ordered to half staff late Wednesday by Governor Jared Polis.
“We mourn the loss of Corporal Groves and keep his loved ones in our thoughts and prayers,” Governor Polis said. “Corporal Groves passed away helping a driver in need — a tragic reminder that every single day, the men and women of the Colorado State Patrol put their lives on the line to keep Coloradans safe. We cannot thank them enough for their service, their sacrifice, and their dedication to our state.”
Cpl. Groves started his career with CSP in 2007. He is survived by his partner of two years.
