COLORADO SPRINGS — The city of Colorado Springs is getting new tools to manage all of the trees that live in town.
City Forestry has it’s first ever Urban Canopy Assessment. The process uses thermal satellite imagery to compare the tree population.
Aerial images allow workers to compare the tree health from the 1990s to recent years.
Today, it’s estimated Colorado Springs is 17% covered with trees.
Trees are considered an extremely valuable resource, important to a healthy city environment.
