MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Police said they found the body of a missing 13-year-old who ran away from home during a snowstorm last Tuesday.

Marshalltown police posted on their Facebook page on Sunday that they found Corey Brown’s body that morning. Police said there was no evidence of foul play, but it’s still being considered an active investigation. An official cause of death has not been released, but detectives said they think he had been in that location for multiple days.

“This was kind of a spur of the moment event, a tragic event,” said Marshalltown Police Chief Michael Tupper. “There are questions out there that we may never be able to answer.”

Police said he left his home wearing a coat and a stocking cap, and temperatures in the area reached single digits during the night.

“I think people here are looking for reasons, looking for blame,” Tupper said. “There’s no blame to be found here.”

Marshalltown police asked residents to thoroughly search their properties and large groups of volunteers helped search for the boy in the days after he disappeared.

The department thanked the community for their efforts to try to bring him home.
