COLORADO SPRINGS – It was a meeting of the mayors. Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers shared advice from his first term in office with Pueblo’s new Mayor-Elect Nick Gradisar on Friday.
The meeting was held at Suther’s office in Colorado Springs and included input from his Chief of Staff Jeff Greene.
The leaders spoke about the structure of Suther’s executive staff, the delicate nature of economic development deals, and the importance of working with their respective city councils.
Gradisar called the meeting beneficial and said he was grateful for the advice.
“They obviously think it’s important, as do I, to establish that cooperative and collaborative relationship with the city council,” Gradisar said. “Take a meal with the City Council before their meetings from time to time, make sure they’re aware of what the mayor’s agenda is how does that fit with their agendas and so we can just move the city forward.”
Pueblo City Council meets twice each month in the evening and the council members traditionally eat dinner together immediately prior to their meetings.
Gradisar is also planning to meet with Sam Mamet, Executive Director of the Colorado Municipal League, during this transition period. He is expected to take office in early February after the results of the runoff election are certified.
