COLORADO SPRINGS – All eyes will be on President Trump this evening as he addresses the nation on the government shutdown, funding for border security, and possibly plans to go ahead without Congressional approval for border wall funds.

News 5 will air the event live at 7 p.m. on KOAA-TV, KOAA.com and within the News5 app.

President Trump tweeted he plans to address the nation surrounding the “Humanitarian and National Security crisis on our southern border”, even saying he may declare a national emergency and allocate military funds toward construction of the border wall.

By declaring a national emergency, the President can bypass Congress and their refusal to pass a budget of which includes more than $5 billion in funding for the project promised during the 2016 election.

Democrats refuse to budge, making it clear they object the wall itself, not what it’s made of – be it concrete or steel.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) will make their own argument following the president’s address.
