PUEBLO – The Pueblo Police Department says it has seen an increase in auto thefts the last six years, and now it’s getting some help in the fight against car thieves.
The department is set to receive about $47,000 worth of state money to fight auto theft.
The grant will go toward buying equipment, paying officers over time, and gathering resources from other departments in Colorado.
“We are trying to do a proactive approach with that equipment to try to identify thieves and locations where they are taking these vehicles,” said Sgt. Mark Duran.
City Council still has to approve the money transfer, and that decision will be made in two weeks.
