Southern Colorado | Always Watching Out For You

Winter Weather Outlook 2018-2019

Welcome to our first ever “Winter Weather Outlook”. The idea is to give you a “sense” for what to expect this coming Winter. No one can forecast exact specifics, but we can give you trends…above average, average, below, which can be helpful for planning purposes. Here, the team goes through as many factors as we can think of, that may influence the overall numbers and feel of Winter 2018-2019. We think you will enjoy it.

So that covers the averages, or what is typical for southern Colorado Winters. Now, we move on to the jet stream. What are the typical patterns, what happened last year, what we think will happen this year…because the jet really does determine overall temps and precipitation. But, the jet is influenced by things like El Nino, the North Atlantic Oscillation, and other large-scale circulations.

And finally, here is our forecast for the Winter. I break it down into regions, NW Mountains, Western slope, SW Mountains, Eastern Plains, and Southern Plains. We are off to a fast start, in October and November, but will it hold up? Here are my thoughts. Enjoy…
