EL PASO COUNTY – Investigators with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 20-year-old Tyler Lee Wheeler on a charge of murder for a shooting on Tranters Creek Way.

It was Sunday night when the call came in to 911 about shots fired and a man seen down on the sidewalk in the Lorson Ranch neighborhood.

Deputies and medics tried to save the man’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wheeler was arrested around 2 a.m. today on a charge of first-degree murder. He is being held without bond.

Investigators have not released the victim’s name, pending a positive identification from the Coroner’s Office.

Neighbors told News5 they were shocked to hear the gunfire in the quiet subdivision east of Marksheffel Rd and Fontaine Blvd.  We’re told at least 5 shots were fired, with some rounds hitting homes.

Dale Mushak, who lives near the scene, said he thought it was fireworks until he heard screaming.  “We came to the corner and realized the gentleman had been shot. I heard his mom screaming, ‘Bring my son back, bring my son back.’”
