Candidates for vacant Monument Trustee position debate

MONUMENT – The three people vying to become the seventh member and tie-breaking vote on the often equally-divided and highly-contentious Monument governing body, the Board of Trustees, made their case for election to the position in a Candidates’ Forum Tuesday night, moderated by KOAA 5 President and CEO Evan Pappas.

The vacancy on the 7-member volunteer board was created by the election last November of Trustee Don Wilson to the position of mayor.  The evenly-split remaining six members failed twice to agree on a single candidate to nominate the position, resulting in the vacancy being decided on by voters in an election.

The three candidates vying for the open position are, in alphabetical order by last name, Ann Howe, Kenneth Kimple, and Jim Romanello.  They will answer questions presented by the moderator, as well as questions from the audience as time permits during the two-hour event.
