FOUNTAIN – A 42-year-old man was arrested for allegedly scamming a number of Fountain residents by taking their money, saying he’d help them relocate.

The Fountain Police Department recently conducted an investigation into reports of the fraud involving a number of people who live in the Riverside Mobile Home Park. Investigators said the residents were given money to help relocate them due to environmental concerns in the area.

The money was then given to Michael Lemay, who said he’d help in the relocation efforts. Those involved then contacted police after realizing they’d fallen victim to a scam.

Lemay was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for Theft with a $50,000 bond Monday. This is an ongoing investigation as efforts are being made to recover the lost money.

Anyone with information is asked to call Corporal Smith at (719) 382-4262 or call Crime Stoppers at (719) 634-STOP to remain anonymous.
