MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Five squirrels were found in an unusual predicament Sunday.
Five little squirrels were found in quite the squirrely situation, as they had their tails entangled together. The siblings were found in their nest with all five of their tails tangled into one.
The squirrels’ mother made them a nest made of grass and strips of plastic which were also found stuck in the big knot. Luckily, a person spotted the entanglement and called the Wisconsin Humane Society for help.
Humane Society workers took the squirrels in and gave them anesthesia to keep them calm. The tricky part, figuring out which tail belonged to who.
But, after 20 minutes of snipping away at the grassy, furry knot, the five squirrels had their own tails again. Employees said the squirrels were “bright-eyed and bushy-tailed” after they were freed.
The squirrels will need to be monitored for a few days to assure they didn’t develop tail necrosis which is caused by impaired blood flow.
