A large plume of smoke is visible from a wildfire burning north of Silverthorne, while satellite imagery shows another fire burning to the west of Grand Lake Thursday afternoon.

Summit County authorities say the first fire is burning in the Williams Fork area near Ute Pass in Grand and Clear Creek counties.

The second fire is burning at the Grand Lake Golf Course, which is also producing large columns of smoke. Deputies say there are crews on the scene of that fire and County Road 48 is shut down in the area.

Homes near the golf course could soon by under pre-evacuation status, according to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.

Both fires are visible from the GOES 16 weather satellite, which can detect heat signatures.
