UCCS announces downtown expansion

Posted

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs is expanding its campus downtown this fall.

UCCS Chancellor Venkat Reddy formally announced the expansion Monday morning in a ceremony at the school’s main campus.

The university is opening the new location at 102 S. Tejon St. starting Sept. 1 with non-credit classes and programs before classes for credit and degree programs are offered in fall 2019.

"This new location will be an excellent opportunity for UCCS to become fully integrated into downtown Colorado Springs and to see what the future holds for an extended downtown presence," Reddy said in a news release. "Residents will be able to use the location to learn more about UCCS and the classes offered, meet our faculty and students, and discover how they can take advantage of lifelong learning opportunities."

In the 2018-19 academic year, the downtown location will offer the certificate programs in different fields as well as the Teacher Leader Academy with the UCCS College of Education and the mini MBA program through the College of Business.

The new location will feature meeting space for alumni events, a welcome and recruitment center and a box office to buy tickets to arts and athletic events.
