Colorado Springs Police report 23 fatal traffic crashes in 2018

Posted

The Colorado Springs Police Department has investigated 23 fatal traffic crashes in 2018.

This is from January 1, 2018 through June 22, 2018. Police said 14 of the fatalities were car-related, three were motorcycle-related, five pedestrian-related, and one bicycle-related.

Tests for all crashes have not yet been completed, but of the ones that have been completed, eight were alcohol-related, CSPD said. Excessive speed has been considered a factor in several crashes, three of which involved speeds over 100mph.

Four of the five pedestrians killed in crashes this year, were crossing the street illegally. Eight of the fatalities came from a vehicle attempting a left hand turn, police said.

Seatbelts were a contributing factor in five of the 14 car fatalities, as seatbelts were not used in five crashes, four of which were ejected from their cars.

Colorado Springs Police want to remind all citizens to please slow down, buckle up, don’t jaywalk, be aware when driving at all times, and don’t drink and drive. Preventing fatalities and traffic safety is a community effort.
