The launch of a major new alternative transportation option in downtown Colorado Springs is just over a week away.

News5 got a look at the final preparations underway to get two hundred bikes ready to make their debut under the PikeRide system.

Volunteers gathered to help assemble the bikes and test the new technology that will help riders use features like GPS to get to their destinations.

"Just similar to our cell phones. It’s got a smart app built into the handle bars. It can give you turn by turn directions; it allows you to check out a bike; it can let you know what your membership is paying for; it lets you know when your ride is over," Jolie Nesmith with PikeRide said.

There will be 28 stations for the bikes to drop off all around town. The planned launch for the system is June 26th.
