The District 11 Board of Education announced Monday it offered the district’s superintendent job to Michael Thomas, the Chief of Academics, Leadership, and Learning for Minneapolis Public Schools.

The offer is dependent upon negotiations between the district and Thomas.

If he accepts the position, this will be Thomas’ first superintendent job. He first worked at Osseo Area Schools, located on the northwest side of Minneapolis. In that district he served as a principal as well as district coordinator for equity and integration. He is slated to earn his doctorate in educational leadership from the University of St. Thomas this summer.

Thomas was one oftwo finalists for the position, but the board decided to hire Thomas during a special board meeting Monday.

Thomas will replace Dr. Nicholas Gledich, who is retiring from D11 later this month.
