Water started bubbling up through the cracks on westbound Woodmen Rd. under I-25 at about 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Those cracks opened up and turned into a bigger issue by 3:30 a.m.
Colorado Springs Police closed the westbound lanes under the highway, meaning no access to southbound I-25. Utility crews worked Sunday to fix the broken main while the road was closed.
Police said the closure will likely remain through Monday, with the road being re-opened Tuesday morning.
If you need to access I-25 from Woodmen, there is an alternate route you can take. To get on I-25 south from Woodmen, or to continue west on Woodmen under I-25, you will have to exit north on I-25 to north Academy. Then you will have to double back southbound and get back on Woodmen. The ramp from westbound Woodmen to northbound I-25 is unaffected, but delays due to the lane closure may cause extended delays. It’s best to just avoid the area.
