Authorities arrest suspect in Aguilar murder case

Las Animas County Sheriff’s deputies and Trinidad Police arrested a man suspected in the homicide of a man found on the side of a road west of Aguilar earlier this month.

Authorities arrested 20-year-old Domenic Damelio in Trinidad Wednesday in connection to the death of 39-year-old Burchard Mitchell.

As News 5 has reported, Mitchell’s body was found off of County Road 43.7 on May 9. Days later, authorities announced the case was being investigated as a homicide. 

After a brief standoff Wednesday, Damelio was arrested a home in the 100 block of Burlington Street in Trinidad. He is suspected of first degree murder, second degree murder and first degree kidnapping. 

He is being held without bond in the Las Animas County Jail.
