Air Force baseball caps season with 3-1 loss

Air Force baseball dropped a 3-1 contest at San José State (26-28, 16-14 MW), in Mountain West action Saturday afternoon at Municipal Stadium in San José, Calif. Air Force caps the season with a 24-30 overall record and 12-17 mark in Mountain West play.

San José State scored a run in the sixth and two in the seventh. Air Force scored its lone run in the ninth inning.

The Falcons had eight hits on the day. Ryan Robb, Tyler Zabojnik and Daniel Jones had two hits each to lead the Falcons. Jones hit a pair of doubles. Colby Brown had Air Force’s lone RBI with a base hit to score Jones. Cole Blatchford also added a double.

Nic Ready went 0 for 4 in the game to snap his 30 game hitting streak and 37 game reached base streak.

Tyler Mortenson (4-7) took the loss in the start. Mortenson pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned. Joe Kincart closed out the game in relief.

San José State had 10 hits in the game. Aaron Pleshner had two hits. Zach Wallace (1-2) picked up the win in relief. Josh Goldberg got the save. Starter Tevin Cadola pitched two innings.

Air Force set a school record with its .975 team fielding percentage, surpassing the previous record of .968 set just last season. The Falcons batted .320 in MW play, its second-best ever.

Air Force graduates 10 seniors off the 2018 team. Six starters in the field and two weekend starting pitchers are slated to return in 2019.
