An alert Pueblo County deputy was able to stop a driver who was driving the wrong way on I-25 early Thursday morning.
The driver was heading heading southbound along northbound I-25 near the U.S. Highway 50 Bypass at 1:40 a.m. The vehicle then exited the interstate and was heading the wrong way along Highway 50.
The deputy followed the driver onto Highway 50 and activated his emergency lights to get the driver to stop. The vehicle hit a guardrail and several traffic barrels as it attempted to enter Highway 50.
The driver, Johnnie Ronco, 49, admitted to deputies that he had been drinking and that he was unaware he was driving the wrong way. Ronco was arrested for DUI and several other traffic offenses. No one was hurt.
