The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office updated that the 117 Fire that is now 100 percent contained was human-caused.
The sheriff’s office sent the update Saturday morning, as there is no exact word on what sparked the blaze, but that it wasn’t from any natural causes. The 117 Fire destroyed 23 homes and nearly 43,000 acres east of Hanover, being one of the largest wildfires in recent Colorado history.
The fire started early Tuesday afternoon and prompted 1,000 people to be evacuated from their homes as the fire spread quickly throughout El Paso County. Evacuations were lifted as of Thursday night, where fire crews were able to reach 100 percent containment.
An event has been held Saturday afternoon to help those affected by the fire.
