State Trooper involved in fatal shooting outside Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION (AP) — A Colorado State Trooper was involved in a fatal shooting outside Grand Junction, authorities said.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday, a shooting involving a trooper happened on Highway 50 and 29 Road in Orchard Mesa, according to Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Blake White.

A person described as a suspect died and the trooper was not hurt, White said.

The 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the person who died, as well as the cause and manner of death.

The trooper, whose name hasn’t been released, will be placed on administrative leave during the investigation, authorities said.
