Kierra Sam joined KOAA in July 2024 as an anchor and reporter. Raised in Galveston County, Texas, along the Gulf of Mexico, Kierra experienced firsthand the anxiety associated with storm damage, preparation, and evacuation. As a child, her family relied heavily on their local news station for crucial information, which profoundly influenced her decision to pursue a career in journalism.
Kierra graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Spanish. Her career began in Beaumont, Texas, where she earned several awards, including a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for her compelling series on families recovering from tropical storm damage. She continued her journalism career as a morning news anchor and reporter in Missoula, Montana, and her love for the Rocky Mountains led her to Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In her spare time, Kierra finds joy in the quiet outdoors or the vibrant atmosphere of musical festivals and concerts. As an avid runner, she aspires to complete a marathon one day, enjoys practicing yoga, nurturing her plants, and experimenting with new dessert recipes to share with friends.
Kierra is thrilled to be part of the E.W. Scripps Company, embracing their mission to "Give Light, and the people will find their way." She draws inspiration from her favorite quote: "You try. You fail. You try. You fail. But the only true failure is when you stop trying."
