Jeannette Hynes joins the News 5 Team as an Executive Reporter.
Hynes grew up with a tape recorder in hand, interviewing her cousins with a Howard Cosell-style of delivery. It was all for fun and entertainment then, but it created a spark within, talking with people, listening to them, and telling their stories.
Early on, she learned she loved to write, contributing articles for the local newspaper and her high school yearbook. Another journalistic spark growing up was assisting the local radio station’s coverage of the county fair.
She went to the University of Colorado, Boulder, to earn a business degree and along the way, that journalism spark caught fire. She graduated from CU with both a business degree and a journalism degree.
Her broadcast news career spans from Nebraska’s high plains to the Texas Hill Country to the Arizona desert. The mountains were calling, so she returned to Colorado.
Jeannette has had the privilege of reporting and raising her family in Colorado Springs. She’s a youth mentor at church and is a retired Girl Scout Leader.
She also serves on the board of the nonprofit Kidpower of Colorado. Kidpower teaches children life-long safety skills to prevent abuse, bullying, assault, and abduction, empowering them to advocate for themselves and others.
Jeannette is an avid sports fan and participant. She follows and cheers for the Colorado teams, no matter how good or bad they are, and has a passion for college football. She enjoys taking advantage of Colorado’s unparalleled topography for running, hiking, kayaking, and SUPing.
When the weather keeps her inside, or even when it doesn’t, you will find her immersed in a book.
