DENVER — After being open for less than three months, Mount Evans Road will close for the season starting Tuesday, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The U.S. Forest Service said the top 5-mile section of Mount Evans Road to the Summit of Mount Evans Interpretive Site will be closed at Summit Lake.
The road's opening this year was delayed due to weather and snow conditions. It opened on June 7 instead of the initial May 24 date announcement.
The lower section of the road will stay open until Oct. 7 depending on weather conditions.
The U.S. Forest Service said weather conditions can change drastically on Mount Evans and drivers should be prepared for anything.
Mount Evans gets thousands of visitors each year and visitors should expect heavy traffic on most weekends. The U.S. Forest Service said the best time to visit is during the week and mornings.
