NEW YORK (AP) — Igor Levit isn’t content to be heard only through piano.
The 32-year-old pianist, winner of last year’s Gilmore Artist Award, is among the most probing young artists in classical music.
His website describes him as “Citizen. European. Pianist.” He is anti-Trump, anti-Brexit and pro-European Union, as eager to expound on his world views as he is on the works of famous composers.
Says Levit: “The time of staying in my comfort zone is over. As long as I have a voice, as long as I am able to raise my voice, I will not let these aggressive people destroy my society, my world.”
