A modern take on the classic white shirt at Carolina Herrera

NEW YORK (AP) — Wes Gordon presented a strikingly contemporary collection at Carolina Herrera, unleashing a slew of bright colors — including “taxi-cab yellow” — and relaxed silhouettes.

Gordon took the reins a year ago as creative director, succeeding Herrera, who became brand ambassador. He said he was inspired for this latest collection by the still-life flowers of late photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.

Gordon also sent a playful nod down the runway to his predecessor’s love for a crisp white shirt, turning one such shirt into a billowing, floor-length number that looked like a freewheeling bridal gown.

Monday’s collection was presented amid the portraits and stained-glass windows of the New York Historical Society, the city’s oldest museum.
