More and more female celebrities are embracing their natural hair color by going gray, showing just how fabulous silver locks can look. This week, “Groundhog Day” actor Andie MacDowell displayed her “silver fox” transformation on “The Drew Barrymore Show.”

Her makeover wasn’t entirely intentional. MacDowell explained that the COVID-19 pandemic was the main factor.

“What happened was, I wasn’t coloring my hair, and it was half-colored back here,” she told Barrymore and Ross Matthews, touching the back of her head. “You could see my roots, and my daughters kept telling me that I looked badass. And [that] really appealed to me. So I went for it, and I am enjoying it.”

MacDowell, 62, took the opportunity to make an important point — she doesn’t want her hair to be described as “gray.”

“I always correct people: ‘It’s not gray, it’s silver,'” she said. She added that she doesn’t think of the change as “letting herself go,” but feels empowered by the act of self-acceptance.

“I went to the grocery store, and I saw a man there, a ‘silver fox’ guy,” she said. “I immediately just put my shoulders back, and I was like, ‘And so am I,’ you know? We both just shot a look to each other,” she told Barrymore and Matthews. “It’s like, I’m a silver fox. That’s where I am right now.”

Before she went silver, MacDowell was known for her long brunette locks, but now, she’s not sure what she’ll do with her hair color in the future.

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen in five years,” she says in the clip, which “The Drew Barrymore Show” posted to YouTube. “I might color my hair again, but I’m enjoying it right now.”

Followers of MacDowell on Instagram will already have caught a glimpse of her silver hair. She posted a video of it back in November.

Gray hair, silver hair … whatever you want to call it, MacDowell looks fabulous.
