House Bill 1278 places new requirements on Colorado counties for how many ballot dropoff boxes and Voter Service and Polling Centers they must have available during an election. El Paso County Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman said the law will add $700,000 to $1.5 million to his cost of running an election. Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold plans to buy the ballot boxes for the counties and hopes lawmakers can find additional funds to help with the polling places.
