PUEBLO, Colorado — Pueblo firefighters responded to a fire near Santa Fe Ave. and Santa Fe Dr. Saturday afternoon.

The blaze started around 3 p.m. at the American Iron and Metal Scrapyard. Police said it was a non-metal scrap fire.

The fire put off a large plume of smoke that could be seen from I-25 and out towards the Blende area. According to News5 photojournalist Dez Rowe, parts of Northern and Santa Fe closed to assist traffic flow.

Crews were able to take control of the fire, but people are still asked to avoid the area Saturday evening.
