COLORADO SPRINGS – Wind helped to spread a vehicle fire Sunday at a Colorado Springs area salvage yard.

Stratmoor firefighters were called to a car fire at the “Pull and Pay” off  Highway 87 and by the time they arrived, the blaze had spread to at least 10 cars.

Firefighters said eventually about 20 cars were on fire and they called for assistance from the Fort Carson and Security departments.

The biggest concern with the fire was that it would spread further and ignite dry brush around Fountain Creek. However, firefighters said the way the lot is set up made their jobs easier.

“The good thing is we had access,” said Stratmoor Fire Chief, Darin Anstine. “Sometimes with salvage yards access is a problem, but the people at the Pull and Pay have a really good setup, so we can get in and out.”

The fire is still under investigation and there is no word yet on what caused it to ignite.
