Local club makes large donation to family of fallen officer

EL PASO COUNTY – A huge cash donation from the Gleneagle Sertoma Club will help a recovering El Paso County Deputy and the family of another deputy who was shot and killed in February.

A check for $16,000 was presented to El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder on Wednesday. The Gleneagle Sertoma Club raised the money for the Sheriff’s Foundation to help the family of slain deputy Micah Flick and injured deputy Scott Stone.

The amount that was raised is twice that of what has been raised for other causes by the group in the past. They said the severity of the shooting is what generated the donations.

“Ya know, I’m sure the money helps a little bit, but I think probably more than anything, I think it provides them some kind of feeling of support from the community,” said John Coyle with the Sertoma Club.

The majority of the money raised came from the group’s annual “Patriot Golf Tourney” earlier this year. They are planning another fundraiser for early next year.
