PARK COUNTY – A motorcyclist was killed following a head-on crash with a semi on Highway 285 Saturday afternoon.
Colorado State Patrol said the crash happened seven miles north of Fairplay around 11:47 a.m. An Indian Vintage motorcycle was reportedly traveling southbound on Colorado Highway 285 when the driver failed to acknowledge a slight curve and traveled into the northbound lanes.
This was directly in the path of a semi, CSP said. After hitting the semi head-on, the driver was ejected and rolled over one time.
All lanes of the highway were closed for approximately four hours due to the investigation. The motorcycle driver, 72-year-old Floyd Howard of Highlands Ranch, was pronounced dead at the scene.
CSP said he was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the semi, 65-year-old James Starry of Aurora, did not sustain any injuries during the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
