Custer County Sheriff’s Office identifies woman killed in crash

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office said a 20-year-old woman died early Tuesday morning when she failed to stop when getting on Highway 69 near Westcliffe.

Deputies said 20-year-old Emily Roach died while paramedics tried to transport her to the hospital.

Authorities said was hit by a 1997 Ford F-250 when she didn’t stop on Rosita Road while getting on Highway 69 a little before 7 a.m. Tuesday. Deputies said the driver of the truck tried to stop before hitting Roach’s 2003 Acura at the driver’s side door.

Roach was trapped in her car and deputies called flight for life to transport her to the hospital, but foggy conditions prevented them from landing in the area.

The man driving the truck suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.

Neither alcohol or drugs are considered factors in the crash and it remains under investigation.
