Five killed in shooting at Chicago area manufacturing facility

AURORA, IL – The City of Aurora, Illinois says five people are dead, including the supsect, after a shooting inside a manufacturing facility Friday afternoon.

Five police officers were injured, but are said to be in stable condition. Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman says a sixth officer was also wounded, but not by gunfire.

Police shot and killed the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Gary Martin. Police say he was a 15-year employee at the facility who was being fired on Friday.

The injured officers are said to be in stable condition.

Schools in the area were placed on lockdown during the incident.

An employee at Henry Pratt Company told reporters he recognized a co-worker armed with a pistol and ran out the back door.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has praised the police response to the shooting.

Trump sent a tweet as news of the casualties was unfolding, sending his “Heartfelt condolences to all of the victims and their families,” adding “America is with you!”

Trump is spending the weekend at his home in Palm Beach, Florida.
